GADHIMAI TEMPLE AND GADHIMAI
MELA 2019
INTRODUCTION
There are many
religious places in Nepal. Among that all religious places, Gadhimai temple
(known Gdhimai mandir in Nepal) is very much famous temple in Nepal. It is
believed that goddess Gadhimai lives there. People also called her Gadhimaiya
there.
LOCATION
The temple is located in the Asia continent
in country, Nepal. The gadhimai temple is in Bariyarpur village of Bara district
of State-2 of Nepal. That place is lies at lower area of Nepal which is known
as terai region of Nepal. Bariyarpur village is in Gadhimai municipality of
Bara district named as the name of the temple. The headquater of Bara district
is kalaiya city which is 5 km west from the Bariyapur village or Gadhimai
temple. Kalaiya city is sub-metropolitan city of Nepal. Here, mentioned about
the kalaiya city because the road to gadhimai temple starts from here. To reach
gadhimai temple first we have to reach at Kalaiya and from there we have to go
5 km east then we will reach to Gadhimai temple. The whole area gadhimai to
kalaiya lies near the border of India of Bihar state. Gadhimai Temple and Gadhimai Festival
GADHIMAI TEMPLE
If we want to visit Gdhimai temple or near
the gadhimai festival area we have to first visit to kalaiya city where we can
find palces to live because there is not proper places to live near gadhimai
temple or bariyapur village. The fair or mela starts from the kalaiya city and
from there we can get the transportion facilities to reach gadhimai temple.
Gadhimai temple is very famous temple of
Nepal and Asia too. It is also the place for tourist attraction. Many of the
tourist visit at gadhimai temple from all over the Nepal and India. People also
come from the other country during gadhimai mela or gadhimai festival.
When we reach at Gdhimai temple we will
see two temples of goddess Gadhimai. The facing of the temple is in east. Among
two temples one temple is main where goddess Gadhimai believed to live and we
found one statue of goddess gadhimai.
In other temple we will see the weapon
“trisule” according to hindus. That temple is bigger than the other temple. The
both temples looks very much beautiful and designed in pagoda style. The both
temple is of golden yellow colour and we will see two tigers at the gate of
main temple. The priest of the Gadhimai belongs to the Tharu family and the
latest priest is Mangal Chaudhary Tharu. Eight to ten priest is always
available in the gadhimai compound anytime.
Gadhimai temple has bigger rectangular compound where two temple are located in the center of compound. Different trees are also located at the coumpound of gadhimai temple. We will also see the sitting and worshipping place on different places of the compound.
There is also presence of big bells at different places on the compound. That all bells are placed for the worshiping of the goddess Gadhimai. According to hindus the sound coming from the bell impress the Goddess and it is the good sign for the people.
At
the gadhimai compound we can see four gates to enter the compound to reach the
temple. The four gates located at East, West, North, and South direction of the
temple. The North and East gates are most popular for the entrance to the
temple and rest two gates are not so much popular. To enter throught the gates
we have to walk through ten to twelve stairs and blew the gates we can also see
bells are hunged. People starts worshiping the goddess from the gate. While
entering the gates, we can see different people selling different types of
flower which are offered to the goddess Gadhimai. In Hindu religion people
often use to offer flower to the god upon which the believe. Any person are not
allowed to enter in the compound of temple by wearing slippers or shoes. They
have to place that things outside of the compoung.
Behind
the temple or west direction of the temple we can see one big pound various
mango tree at the side of the pound. In pound we can see some boats for boating
for tourist attraction and enjoyment. At east direction we can see the straight
road which connects to main road. And different business shops are also
available at the side of the staright road. The business is mostly related to
fast food, sweets and worshiping materials for goddess gadhimai. People buy
that all things from there and go towards the temple of gadhimai for
worshiping. We can that kind of business shop all over the area around the
gadhimai temple.
At
the North side of the temple we will see the main road, from there many people
come to visit. The gate present at the main road is most famous for entrance of
the people because mostly people come from that road which directly join the
Kalaiya city. People directly come from that road from kalaiya. Parking area is
also available at the north direction of the temple where different four
wheeler and two wheeler vehicles are parked. All the activities around the
gadhimai temple are handled by the Gadhimai committee, parking to temple
maintenance.
At
the South direction we can see the park where different people use to rest on
that area and also enjoy their holidays. In that we mostly found big mango’s
trees and also other different trees. aAt east of the temple there is presence of Hanuman Mandir. There's we can see the statue of God Hanuman.
GADHIMAI FESTIVAL or GADHIMAI MELA
Gadhimai Fest or Gadhimai Fair also known as Gadhimai Mela in Nepal holds in every five years. It was last held in 2015 A.D and next going to hold in Nov 2019 A.D. That fair or festival is for ten days but thar holds for nearly one month. It holds in the radious of 5 km from the center of the temple to the sourroundings. During the festival nearly about 1 million of animals and birds were sacrifice or offered to the Goddess Gadhimai by Killing them or by leaving around the temple.
